There is so much good technology available, but few school districts have the funds or staffing to support it. Education Reform Suggested Name

Two suggestions of a new name for President Obama's proposed education reform:

 

"EVERY CHILD ACHIEVES"

 

"EVERY CHILD AN ACHIEVER"

 

Postively states that every child will receive an education that will produce college readiness or career readiness upon comletion of high school.

setting in schools

I work in a English comprehensive school, we set out children from year 7 to 11 and this works really well. It allows the teacher to plan lessons according to the ability of the students in the class. we only set for the main classes which are English, Maths and Science, the rest of the lessons are taken as a working group in KS3 and then options in KS4. just wondered what you thought of our way of educating the students. ...more »

No Child Left Behind

There are not enough characters for me to tell all that is wrong with this, but I will do my best. First of all this so called document needs to be scrapped or several ammendments need to be added. My grandchildren are going through the same school system that my grown children went through. Take the Politics Out of Education/Parent Accountability

1. Get rid of elected school boards. They make decisions based on politics NOT for the students. 2. Revisit welfare reform and include more ties to parent continuing education and student performance. 3. Offer incentives for administrators with core-subject backgrounds. "Five-Fold Increase in money for developing principals"

Instead of spending more money on principal development, spend more money on tuition for those seeking to be teachers, increasing teacher salaries ($50K should BE the starting salary because although teachers don't seek to make a million dollars, some do have families to support and should be able to live well), create a tax incentive for teachers, give teachers monetary incentives for student improvement, and spend money ...more »

Teach logic and critical thinking.

If the goal of education is producing worthwhile, productive, intelligent citizens, why are we not teaching logic / critical thinking as a core subject along with reading, math, et al?
