Working Together: Governments, Businesses, Non-Profits...

How should we collaborate with individuals, businesses, non-profits, other agencies, or state/local governments? What kinds of prizes/contests should we consider to attract others in working with us? What top problems should we tackle together?

Other OpenGov Ideas & Information Resources

Rather than post each of my "OpenGov" Ideas at 27 different websites, I have posted them at the GSA's website (since they are in the forefront of the OpenGov initiative). So, by this notice, the members of the OpenGov Team for this agency have been informed of those ideas. (At least, now, you can't say you were unaware of them.) http://opengsa.ideascale.com/a/pmd/29640-6960 ALSO -- Those OpenGov Team members, ...more »

How do we collaborate?

I think it is wonderful that we are having this open discussion. How do we go to the next step and collaborate? One way might be to have, not just "a voting text box" but a "Want to collaborate? box." Those who want to collaborate on a particular issue then would be sent to a webpage where a forum has been set up. For example. I am interested in school board issues. I click onto the "Want to Collaborate." You could ...more »

Driver Education Program supported by The State's Lottery

I feel that Teen Driving Programs should be supported by the Georgia lottery and be put into action just as The Lottery supports the beginning of a child's education, so should preparation for leaving school be implemented.

This would save lots of lives and reduce accidents by offering educational driving skills and not learning from mistakes and unsafe manuevering that the parents may teach.

Break Teacher Unions

If the teachers and the teachers unions had the students best interests first and foremost in mind then they would have some measure of credibility.

The current situation in Rhode Island where the entire staff was fired should not be the exception. The Teachers Unions need to be broken nationwide. The Teacher's Unions do not have the best interests of the students in mind.

That is a conflict of interest.

Business skills based curriculum

The problem: Modern American's as a whole are too dependent on their employer's for income. Few know what is involved in starting and running a business. Solution: A Business 101 class should be required of all high school students their freshmen year. Part of this class would involve every student forming their own sole proprietorship, partnership, limited partnership, trust, corporation, and LLC. The class should form ...more »

Financing Public Education

A liaison should be created between students of public education and the offices of Federal and State Departments such as NASA, CIA, FBI, BLM, etc. The job of this liaison would be to take long standing problems of efficiency and productivity: -prepare a presentation of the problem, -prepare a grant proposal -Finally: to disseminate this presentation to the schools to be evaluated by the students. Academic Scholarships ...more »

Objective based education

The supposed goal of our public education system seems to be socialization as much as it is education, however it fails horribly at developing the ability to work effectively as a team. FIRST Robotics goes a long way towards accomplishing this, however it's an underfunded extra-curricular which is perceived by many as "nerdy". My specific recommendations are as follows: Current "group projects" resemble unions in the ...more »

Private School Loans and Bankruptcy

I attended a University in Wisconsin fall of 1998. I ran across this article about Private School Loans and can really relate! I am adding the Link. http://www.progressillinois.com/2009/5/13/durbin-davis-student-loan-fight I was 18 years old and had no Idea what I was doing let alone signing. I filled a bankruptcy in 2001 and this "loan" should have been discharged due to laws not changing until 2005. I have been ...more »

Education is failing we need to revamp it

I am disappointed in the education system due to my son coming for a small private school was 2 years ahead of his counterparts in the public school. Teachers don't give homework out of books anymore, they don't teach the kids to read by phonics or syllables anymore. Sight reading is terrible and we are turning out students who can't compete with individuals of other countries. There needs to be a revamping of the criteria ...more »

Teach by example, Real Transparency for The Real World?

I have worked now for well over 30 years in the Library of Congress. Many of us will be retiring soon, and many of us staying well beyond retirement age. All these lives of learning experience will eventually be lost.

Why shouldn't we, and why aren't we establishing a National Mentor Knowledge Corps? or Knowledge Coaches for the Future Initiative???
