Replace year-long grades (1st-12th) w/ more granular units

I've thought for many years that it's very odd how we make kids advance one year at a time in all subjects regardless of how they're doing on any individual one. I am disappointed in the education system due to my son coming for a small private school was 2 years ahead of his counterparts in the public school. Teachers don't give homework out of books anymore, they don't teach the kids to read by phonics or syllables anymore. Sight reading is terrible and we are turning out students who can't compete with individuals of other countries. There needs to be a revamping of the criteria ...more »
