Call for "jobs stimulus" that subsidizes customized education

(2/11 UPDATE: Down-voters, please share your reason(s) in the comments section. Thanks for any insight.) In response to this site's question: “How should we collaborate with…businesses?” Summary The provision of said subsidies can be expected to: * catalyze the creation of many jobs * help children enjoy fuller development of their physical brains --- Hello all, I have developed a business plan for establishing... more »

Provide resources for those homeschooling the highly gifted.

Most people don't realise just how many parents of profoundly gifted children end up having to pull their children out of school settings and resort to homeschooling. The best and the brightest of our children are suffering from the below average education that most of them are offered. We need an outreach / identification program for the Highly gifted. Many Universities are already beginning to offer classes to young... more »

The Recon Project

I would propose the ability to allow society to vote on the issues at hand. In an era where the majority has the internet (email, facebook), a cell phone, or landline we no longer need Neilson polls, and News statistics, we have the ability to vote and have our say be heard and accountable. Our politicians have the means to actually represent there constituents. A voter should be able to have an account where they can... more »

Ban Teacher's Unions to Increase Accountability

"Teaching is a special profession where unionization is actually COUNTER productive." I'm sure the idea is making many readers fill with rage, however I'd hope these people will consider the facts before they jump to conclusions. 1. Teaching is one of the only professions where employee accountability is nearly impossible. There is virtually no way to chart a teacher's effectiveness, productivity, and motivation accurately.... more »

Eliminate the Federal Department of Education

The Federal DOE is a 48 billion dollar duplication of state agencies. Instead of collecting taxes from states and then distributing that money to states minus the costs of collection and distribution, leave the money where it is. Local agencies know the needs of their constituents better than a distant office and did arguably better without the DOE, which only came into existence in 1980.

Technology and Education

Mandate all teachers film their lecture's and distribute them in DVD, and .mpeg format. Individual video lecture's enable the teacher to focus their time on 1 on 1 teaching instead of practicing their Greek theater. This allows students to move at a more individualized pace, with the intelligent students graduating high school in a single year. This requires that school's receive funding not based on attendance, but... more »

"Five-Fold Increase in money for developing principals"

Instead of spending more money on principal development, spend more money on tuition for those seeking to be teachers, increasing teacher salaries ($50K should BE the starting salary because although teachers don't seek to make a million dollars, some do have families to support and should be able to live well), create a tax incentive for teachers, give teachers monetary incentives for student improvement, and spend money... more »

Private School Loans and Bankruptcy

I attended a University in Wisconsin fall of 1998. I ran across this article about Private School Loans and can really relate! I am adding the Link. http://www.progressillinois.com/2009/5/13/durbin-davis-student-loan-fight I was 18 years old and had no Idea what I was doing let alone signing. I filled a bankruptcy in 2001 and this "loan" should have been discharged due to laws not changing until 2005. I have been... more »

Break Teacher Unions

If the teachers and the teachers unions had the students best interests first and foremost in mind then they would have some measure of credibility.

The current situation in Rhode Island where the entire staff was fired should not be the exception. The Teachers Unions need to be broken nationwide. The Teacher's Unions do not have the best interests of the students in mind.

That is a conflict of interest.

Utopia: The initative to be better.

It is our duty now to begin to lay the plans and determine the strategy for the winning of a lasting peace and the establishment of an American standard of living higher than ever before known. We cannot be content, no matter how high that general standard of living may be, if some fraction of our people—whether it is one-third or one-fifth or one-tenth—is ill-fed, ill-clothed, ill-housed, and insecure. We have come to... more »

List of Names Online

I want to see the names of the people on the Boards who are ruining our schools. I want to see the names of the all the people in the administration. I want to see the names of people who supported the No Child Left Behind Act. In my area in Oregon these people have trashed school completely. The senior project is a bunch of crap too. What are you doing, preparing them for their future enslavement? How is it even legal... more »
